Everyone should read, if they dare!
My "story" is pretty mundane compared to the people portrayed in the book. I just want to say that this is a life changing book for me. I almost didn't complete it past the first chapter because I really didn't believe that a homosexual person could be balanced and logical about the issues portrayed. Was I ever wrong! I have a small shelf of books that I keep because they have changed my life in some way. I originally borrowed "Far From The Tree" from the library but, believe me, I am going to get my own copy and put it on the shelf with the other books that have changed my life. The balance and compassion that Andrew provides to every area of stuggle and challenge that he portrays is absolutely amazing. I learned so much about some issues that I really have not thought that much about and was impressed with the empathy and compassion that was shown in every instance. This book should give hope to those who struggle with any of these issues or anything similar. A person who wants to be compassionate and open mined will have their beliefs challenged in some way, I am sure. I hope policies will be changed that will benefit everyone but as Andrew so ably points out, these are very complex situations. This was my first taste of Andrew's work but I will be looking for more. Bless you, Andrew Solomon, in everything you do. You are such a valuable person in the world! Thank you, Jeanie Owen
