Transgender Chapter XI

We don't know what makes maleness or femaleness. Yet some people know from earliest childhood that their gender doesn't match their anatomy, and they need to undergo surgical transition to live as the gender they know themselves to be. There is concern, however, that some people—especially children and teenagers—who are convinced that they need to make the switch may feel otherwise over time.

Wrenching mistakes are made in both directions. While some ultimately identify as their affirmed gender, others identify as trans, which is its own vital identity. Prejudice against trans people, and trans children in particular, runs to extremes: many are murdered, and others face violence and other discrimination throughout their lives.
